We have spent all of our time with what we are observing. We have not had the time to turn about and see who the observer is — to see who is sitting within the human body.

The only experience of which you can be sure that it is an experience and not an assumption — is that you are conscious. Reject all other assumptions you have made and hold onto only this one fact — that you are conscious.

Our scriptures and holy books give us noble inspiration and exhort us to follow the Path — but we are contented with a mere reading of them. This is like reading a book on cookery that describes how sweets are prepared — yet you can keep reading it and your sense of taste will not be satisfied, nor will your hunger be appeased.

Consciousness does not exist without that of which it is conscious. Reality and illusion are the same — you see illusion only because of the reality. Truth is that which never changes. Nothing is permanent except the experiencer who receives all differing experiences. The experiencer is consciousness — and consciousness alone is the truth.

A man may know millions and millions of things; he can become acquainted with the whole world, but if he is not aware of the 'knower', he is still ignorant. He may become very knowledgeable but he will not become wise.

The most important question that mankind has ever encountered is 'Who am I?' But it is a question which cannot be answered by anyone other than yourself. It can only be answered through a deep inquiry into the core of your own being.

It is not the clock that is slowing down in space — but time itself slows down. Whether you are located on the earth, the sun, or a black hole will make all the difference. It depends upon the location of the observer.

The Lord is both outside and inside — but so long as the inner eye is not opened, you cannot see Him anywhere. Within, He is clearly visible — but without, He is latent, like butter in milk.

Meditation and Surat Shabd Yoga

From childhood, we are taught to direct our attention outwards, focusing on our physical body and five senses. Meditation is a method in which the attention is withdrawn inwards, instead of outwards, to discover one's deeper truth or Self, commonly known as enlightenment or awakening.

Surat Shabd Yoga is an ancient meditation technique involving listening to inner sounds, which Dr. Ishwar Puri found to be the quickest method of inverting attention inwards. Derived from ancient Indian languages, 'Surat' means attention, 'Shabd' means sound current or audible life stream and 'Yoga' means union.
